Jurgen Klopp confirms Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara will miss West Ham game
In his pre-West Ham press conference, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara will miss Liverpool's upcoming Premier League game.
Matip was an unused substitute against Norwich in the FA Cup and Thiago was not in the squad.
However, speaking in his pre-West Ham press conference, as cited by Anfield Watch, Liverpool's manager Jurgen Klopp has said that Matip has an illness, not COVID-19 related, which will keep him out of the side and he also confirmed that Thiago will not be available for the clash.
"I'm pretty sure Thiago is not available. Curtis is not bad but good enough for tomorrow? We’ll see," said Klopp.
"Matip is ill, but it's not covid. He will not be available."
Anfield Watch Verdict
Thiago will be a massive miss for the Reds on Saturday. Every time the Spaniard plays, he elevates everyone around him.
Matip too. The centre-back is having his best season in a Liverpool shirt since signing and it would be a massive shame if this sets him back.
Matip's illness seems to have been picked after the FA Cup game as he was in the squad against Norwich on Wednesday.
Thiago's injury could be due to his withdrawal from the League Cup final against Chelsea on Sunday.
Luckily, Liverpool have Ibrahima Konate to fill in for Joel and the Reds also have an abundance of midfielders to help replace Thiago.
It's likely that we see Harvey Elliott or James Milner come in for Thiago on Saturday with Naby Keita and Curtis Jones both being doubts for the upcoming Premier League tie too.
Klopp did not confirm how long the pair are going to be out for but hopefully, it will not be too long as Liverpool have a jam-packed schedule until the end of the season.
