What Jurgen Klopp said about Jordan Henderson after Karlsruher SC win

Jurgen Klopp kept his cards close to his chest when quizzed on Jordan Henderson's departure, after Liverpool's 4-2 win against Karlsruhe.

Goals from Darwin Nuñez, Cody Gakpo and a late brace from Diogo Jota secured a win for the Reds, but the Liverpool captain's departure was the talk of the town post-match after the club agreed a deal with Saudi Pro League club Al -Ettifaq for a fee believed to be in the region of £12m.

The 33-year-old was left out of the squad for Liverpool's first game of pre-season and looks set to end his 12-year stay at Anfield this week. When asked about Henderson's potential departure (quotes via Liverpool Echo), Klopp refused to give much away but indicated that Henderson already has one foot out of the door.

“There’s actually nothing to say," Klopp said. "As long as things are not really finally decided, we don’t have to talk about it. There will be a moment when we probably have to talk about it, but it’s not now.

“I don’t know that anything is decided, which means nothing to say at the moment. But that’s even better for you because you can speculate, which is much more fun! If I say something, then it’s finished! In the end, all of these decisions are made by me. And because I respect the players a lot, it’s usually [with their] consent. It was in this case, and it is all fine.”

Henderson's departure is likely to be confirmed in the coming days as he prepares to reunite with ex-Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq. However, the Mail's Dominic King has reported that the former Sunderland star is actually still weighing up the move.

Meanwhile, Fabinho's move to Al-Ittihad is also on the verge of being confirmed after the Reds received a £40m bid for his services.

Liverpool are expected to dip into the transfer market for reinforcements in the coming weeks and could target a wider pool of players due to the potentially unexpected departures of Fabinho and Henderson. While Southampton's Romeo Lavia remains a target, Joao Pahlinha (Fulham), Cheick Doucoure (Crystal Palace) and Leon Goretzka (Bayern Munich) have also been linked.
