Jurgen Klopp's agent speaks out on Germany links
Jurgen Klopp's agent has dismissed the possibility that the Liverpool manager could take over the Germany national team.
Klopp was reported to be on the DFB's (German FA) shortlist to succeed Hansi Flick as manager of Germany.
Flick was sacked from the position after a string of bad results that culminated in a 4-1 friendly defeat to Japan on Saturday.
Klopp was described in the media as a 'dream candidate' for the DFB, who have reportedly made an eight-man shortlist that also features the likes of Julian Nagelsmann and ex-Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, now in charge of Bayer Leverkusen, as they seek a new head coach to lead them into a home European Championships in 2024.
However, the chances of Klopp leaving Liverpool before the end of his contract are seen as slim to none, with the 56-year-old's agent confirming that his client is not in contention for the role.
Marc Kosicke Sportschau on Tuesday evening: “Jurgen has a long-term contract with LFC and is not available for the national coaching position."
Klopp – already the Premier League's longest-serving current manager – signed a new contract with Liverpool only last summer, tying him to Anfield until 2026.
The Reds boss recently admitted the Germany job is 'interesting' but insisted he would not leave his current post before the end of his contract.
Earlier this summer, Klopp told Sky Germany: "I can't just leave Liverpool now and say I'll take over Germany for a short time.
"That doesn't work and the request isn't even there. If I'm supposed to do that at some point, then I have to be available and I'm not currently. I have a responsibility towards the club.
"Basically, it's an interesting job. But I don't know yet whether I'll do something completely different after I leave Liverpool. I want to keep my options open."
