Things have not worked out for Darwin Nunez in a Liverpool shirt and Arne Slot's other options have not really delivered either.

Liverpool have struggled to be clinical in front of goal, despite running away so comfortably with the Premier League title.

That lack of clinical edge has cost them in the cups, and had it been for a prolific forward, this could have turned into an even more special season.

Even so, winning a 20th league title is going to be an incredible achievement but perhaps the most exciting thing about it is the fact that this Liverpool team has more levels to go.

There are ways Slot's side can become better. And that is a very comforting thought to have as look ahead to the new season.

The no.9 question is going to be interest because there are a lot of forwards in the market.

Hugo Ekitike is one Liverpool have held preliminary talks with, and he's on the club's radar. There's also Victor Osimhen and Liam Delap.

Meanwhile, Viktor Gyokeres and someone like Matheus Cunha could also become a target.

Undoubtedly the top two players Liverpool want are Alexander Isak and Julian Alvarez.

The latter Anfield Watch revealed exclusively is a player Liverpool have admired for a long time and wanted to sign back in the summer of 2024 as well.

A move for Alvarez was never going to be easy considering he has only been at Atletico Madrid for less than 12 months.

However, a new report from Spain has revealed some surprising information that could open up the possibility of Liverpool striking an agreement for the Argentine star.

According to El Nacional Alvarez is already considering his future at Atletico Madrid having been dissatisfied with how the season has gone.

The report claims he's ready to quit the club if the situation doesn't improve by 2026.

There is no doubt about that this will be music to Liverpool's ears and it puts Alvarez closer towards striking a surprise agreement with Atletico Madrid to leave the club after such little time in the Spanish capital.

Even more surprising would be to see him at Liverpool considering how little time has passed since he was wearing Man City colours.

Based on the above report, there is a chance of that happening if he's already considering his future. With Liverpool very keen to add another striker this summer, Richard Hughes may just test the waters.
