Journalist Jorge Nicola has shared what he's been told by sources in Brazil about Liverpool and Lucas Beraldo.

Liverpool have been linked with Lucas Beraldo in recent times - a 19-year-old centre-back currently impressing for Sao Paolo in Brazil. And it seems there will be a chance to secure the player in January.

Journalist Jorge Nicola has given an update after talking to people close to the situation in Brazil. He's discussed the Reds' supposed interest with both the club's president and people close to the player - but it's a mixed bag.

It seems Liverpool haven't initiated anything at all in regards to this deal - something Fabrizio Romano recently said himself. That doesn't mean a move couldn't happen, though.

Speaking on YouTube, Nicola claims that while there's a lack of contact from the Reds, Beraldo is likely to leave in January. The Brazilian season runs over the calendar year, making that the 'off-season' for clubs.

On top of that, the teenager is unlikely to cost all that much. The claim is that a fee around £20m is highly unlikely as it would be a record for a defender out of the Brazilian league.

The chance to strike a deal or Beraldo, then, is very much there. But that certainly doesn't mean Liverpool fans should get excited.

Trivela, too, make it clear that there has been no contact from the Reds at all for Beraldo. While they may have scouted the player, they scout a lot of players - they certainly don't make a move for all of them.

Reports all over the place link them with Goncalo Inacio from Sporting, for one, and we imagine Beraldo would be a backup option if more proven players are unavailable.

The Brazilian is certainly a name to keep an eye out for but there's a long way to go here.
