Journalist reveals that Divock Origi is set to depart Liverpool this summer

Liverpool and Divock Origi are set to part ways come the summer, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, as cited by Anfield Edition's Twitter account.

Tavolieri has reported that the Reds are not going to offer the Belgium international a contract extension.

With that being the case, Origi will be able to sign for another club on a free transfer (contract expires in June) when the summer transfer window opens.

Tavolieri further added that AC Milan are considering making a move for the 26-year-old.

Liverpool signed Origi from Lille for a transfer fee of €12.63 million back in the summer of 2014.

Since then, the forward has gone on to score 40 goals and register 17 assists in 171 appearances for the club's first-team.

Origi has also helped the club win the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League title and League Cup.

However, the Belgium international is in the prime of his career and not playing regular senior football. Despite being fit, Origi has only made 14 appearances for Liverpool's first-team this season.

Therefore, the 26-year-old would be wise to sign for another club come the summer.

But, there is no denying that Origi will be missed when he does eventually depart Anfield, and Klopp has explained why.

As quoted by Sports Max, the Liverpool boss said the following back in December 2021: "Divock Origi, the legend. He's an incredible striker. For different reasons he did not play that often, but I hope one day he finds a manager that plays him more than I do.

"He's one of the best finishers I've ever seen in my life. In this great team, with our (front) three, he doesn't play all the time, but he is a very positive boy, loves the club, wants to contribute, and he did in an incredible way."
