Journalist names the players that were behind Diogo Jota in the transfer pecking order
Journalist Paul Gorst has named the players that were behind Diogo Jota in the transfer list pecking order.
Liverpool signed the forward from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a transfer fee of €44.70 million back in the summer of 2020.
Jota has performed well for the Reds since. The Portugal international has scored 25 goals and registered three assists in 54 appearances for the club's first-team.
The only negative aspect regarding Jota's time at Anfield thus far is that he has suffered a couple of injuries.
According to Gorst, Jota was signed ahead of Gent's Jonathan David and Watford's Ismaila Sarr.
As quoted by Anfield Edition's Twitter account, the journalist told the Liverpool Echo the following: "Jota was also one of three men to feature on an attacking shortlist that same window [summer of 2020] alongside Jonathan David, then of Gent and Ismaila Sarr, who continues to ply his trade at Watford."
Anfield Watch Verdict
We are delighted that Liverpool and Jota ended up crossing paths. The aforementioned figures highlight that the Reds possess a top player.
Jota is only 25 years of age. Therefore, it would be fair to state that the Portugal international could easily represent the club for another five or so years.
Hopefully Jota can have a long and successful career at Anfield.
