Jordan Henderson plays in front of record low crowd in Saudi Arabia

Jordan Henderson endured an evening to forget last Saturday as his Al Ettifaq side played in front of a record low crowd this season.

The former Liverpool captain made the controversial move to Saudi Arabia after discussions with Jurgen Klopp over the midfielder's playing time, or lack thereof, joining up with former teammates Steven Gerrard and Georginio Wijnaldum at Al Ettifaq.

The Reds took no time in replacing Henderson and the other midfielders that departed the club, bringing in Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo over the summer.

While Liverpool have enjoyed a stellar start to the new season, Henderson has had a rather more miserable time in Asia.

One of the things that will have disappointed Henderson most since his transfer are the terrible attendances at Al Ettifaq's matches, with a record low for the season during the club's 0-0 draw with Al Fayha last Saturday.

During the goalless draw, Henderson played in front of just 610 people at the Prince Mohammed Bin Fahd Stadium.

That's the lowest attendance the Premier League winner has played in front of since joining Al Ettifaq - a measly 1.1% the size of the crowds he enjoyed at Anfield.

An appallingly poor turnout, it works out at under a third of the average number of spectators at the League Two side with the lowest average attendance - Forest Green Rovers average 2,121 fans per home game.

There had been rumblings earlier in the season that many of the European elite that made the switch to Saudi Arabia had already grown frustrated with the remarkably low attendances, with some perhaps considering their futures in Asia.

While Al Ettifaq won five of their first seven Saudi Pro League matches under Gerrard, they have been in poor form since and now find themselves seventh in the table.

Somehow, Henderson has still found himself in Gareth Southgate's England squad for the November internationals, while the likes of James Ward-Prowse can't find a space in the team.
