Joe Gomez wants Liverpool exit amid interest from Spurs, Leicester, Newcastle & West Ham

With Joe Gomez's lack of playing time this season, a recent report has claimed that the Liverpool defender is hopeful the Reds will sanction a move away from the club next summer.

Liverpool's Gomez has had very limited playing time this season due to the introduction of Ibrahima Konate who the Reds signed for £36m last summer.

That paired with the return of Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk, the 24-year-old has only managed to play 14 games under Jurgen Klopp this season, with the majority of those appearances coming off the bench.

Due to this lack of game time, reports in the winter transfer window started claiming that other clubs were interested in Gomez.

One of those clubs was Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa side, as cited by LFC Transfer Room.

MailSport also claimed that La Liga giants Real Madrid were monitoring the situation surrounding the Liverpool defender.

Despite these links, Gomez did not depart Anfield in the January transfer window, with Klopp commenting on the lack of game time for the 24-year-old after the deadline day.

Now, a recent report from Graeme Bailey, as cited by Anfield Watch, has claimed that Gomez is hopeful that Liverpool will sanction a move away from the club this summer as he looks to get into the England World Cup squad.

The report also claims that there is a lot of interest from Premier League clubs with Leicester City, Spurs, Newcastle United and West Ham United all interested in signing the Liverpool defender.

Anfield Watch Verdict

It's been a very hard season for Gomez. The lack of game time and the fact that he's fallen behind Konate must be difficult.

He is still very young and has so much potential to fulfil. Saying that, Liverpool might not be the club to help him reach his potential.

If Liverpool were to sell Gomez then they would demand a large fee with his contract at Anfield not set to expire until 2024.

His injuries have also been a factor in his recent downfall, as whenever he has a chance to play or gets a long stint in the side he seems to pick up an injury that keeps him out for a while.

If Klopp does sanction a move then it's highly likely that Liverpool will invest it in another centre-back as having three first-team centre-backs isn't enough for the Reds with the injury issues we've suffered in the past.
