Joe Cole and Rio Ferdinand wax lyrical about Trent Alexander-Arnold
Former Premier League footballers Joe Cole and Rio Ferdinand have recently praised Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Scouser is a defender by trade. However, it has been Alexander-Arnold's ability going forward which has impressed Cole and Ferdinand over the years, and we can understand why,
The 23-year-old has scored 12 goals and registered 60 assists in 215 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.
“Look, it doesn’t need words (Alexander-Arnold's attacking strength)," Cole told BT Sport earlier this week, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account. "It’s (David) Beckham-like but I think he’s actually a better passer than Beckham, a better crosser than Beckham. That’s saying something because he was the best that I’d seen in my generation."Ferdinand added: “Trent is as good a passer as anyone on the planet right now. When I saw one of his passes yesterday (against Benfica at the Estadio da Luz), I was screaming.
"And it’s not usually passes that do that to me. It’s out of order the way he passes the ball. It’s not only the execution, it’s the vision.”Anfield Watch Verdict
We completely agree with both Cole and Ferdinand. As we have pointed out, Alexander-Arnold is such a good player with the ball at his feet.
The right-back is having a solid 2021-22 campaign. Alexander-Arnold has been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.51 across the season.
The 23-year-old has won five major trophies with Liverpool. The exciting thing about Alexander-Arnold is that he still so young.
Therefore, the full-back is certainly far from the finished article.
Alexander-Arnold also has plenty of time left in his career to win several more trophies.
Because Alexander-Arnold grew up supporting Liverpool, we would be surprised if he ever tried to force a move away from Anfield.
We look forward to seeing how the remainder of his career plays out.
