Man United 2-2 Liverpool: Jamie Carragher SLAMS wasteful Reds

Jamie Carragher has slammed Liverpool after a second half capitulation saw them throw away a seemingly commanding lead against Manchester United on Sunday.

The Reds were in total control of the game going into half-time and should have been up by more than one, with the only converted goal of the game thus far coming from Luis Diaz.

However, after the break, a disastrous error from Jarell Quansah allowed Bruno Fernandes to chip the out-of-position Caoimhin Kelleher from halfway, gifting United an equaliser at a time where they were threatening nothing.

With the wind suddenly under their sails, United continued to press and went in front through a fantastic curling finish from starlet midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.

Liverpool were able to salvage a point thanks to a Mohamed Salah penalty late on - but given the amount of fluffed chances throughout the afternoon, it undoubtedly felt like two vital points lost in their quest for the title.

Carra fumes at wasteful Reds

'Two points lost' was very much the sentiment echoed by former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher at full-time.

In the commentary gantry for Sky Sports, Carragher said: "Liverpool have only got themselves to blame. Same as in the FA Cup tie, not clinical enough when it mattered.

"Should have put Manchester United to bed, so this is definitely two points dropped."

Red Devils legend and punditry partner in crime Gary Neville was also of the feeling that United should be more than happy to come away with a point, given how lacklustre they were during the first half.

He added: "From a Manchester United point of view, an odd bunch. So low in their performance in the first half but I think grateful for a draw in the end."

Roy Keane was also sure to get in on the action after the final whistle. While an absolute joy for the neutral, the Irishman emphasised the stress and chaos of the game that had just ensued.

And while Carragher was certain that Liverpool should have taken the three points, Keane still believes that given the circumstances, the Reds can still treat that as a point gained.

"Honestly, I can’t believe what I’m watching. The last few games, today’s game, absolutely crazy," he said. "The managers must be pulling their hair out.

"Really enjoyable because of the entertaining side of it. I think Liverpool towards the end, they should have won the game but they’ll take a point at the end.

"That might be vital at the end of the season. 2-1 down, you’re fighting with 10 minutes to go at Old Trafford, it’s never that easy.

"Jurgen Klopp will be mixed emotions I’m sure. They gifted United back into the game but they clawed their way back with a draw and until the end of the season it might be vital, we’ll know soon."
