Jamie Carragher names position he wants to see Liverpool improve
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher would like to see the Reds strengthen in midfield in the summer.
The Scouser made it clear that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp possesses an ageing midfield.
With that being the case, Carragher said that the club should be looking to sign a promising young midfielder when the summer transfer window opens.
He said the following on the It's A Funny Old Life podcast (01:17:07): “I just think in the summer, I think the one position would be midfield for me.
“I think if you look at our first-choice midfield now you’ve got: (Jordan) Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago (Alcantara) there all around 30, there all around there.
“Obviously Naby Keita’s done very well against Manchester City but you can never fully trust him injury wise and the other three are all that age, (James) Milner’s obviously a lot older now and I think (Alex) Oxlade-Chamberlain will move on.
“You’ve got Curtis Jones there but I just think one more who’s around the 23-24 age to go in there is probably something that we need."
Anfield Watch Verdict
We completely agree with Carragher that Liverpool should be looking to sign a midfielder for the future in the summer.
The Reds have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham. We believe that he fits the aforementioned criteria.
Bellingham, 18, has scored six goals and registered 13 assists in 41 appearances for Borussia Dortmund this season.
The midfielder is well beyond his years. If the club were to sign Bellingham, he could play in Liverpool's midfield for over a decade.
Bellingham is contracted until June 2025 and possesses a current market value of £67.50 million.
It will be interesting to see who Liverpool target in the summer.
