Former Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher has implied that he would not be against Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone taking the reigns at Anfield when Jurgen Klopp departs.

The German is expected to leave Liverpool when his contract expires in the summer of 2024. With that being the case, Carragher has revealed that he has been thinking about Klopp's successor.

The Scouser has suggested that Simeone could be the man for the job.

"I was talking to someone last night actually about Simeone for Liverpool, talking about when Klopp would leave in a couple of years," Carragher told Sky Sports' Overlap, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account.  "I would love to see Simeone in the Premier League. To see how he plays. Is it because he’s up against Real Madrid and Barcelona (he plays a defensive brand of football), he is always the underdog. "If he went to Manchester United and got as much money as anyone, would he play differently? I am not so sure.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Simeone has been quite successful as a manager. The Spaniard has won the La Liga (x2) and the Europa League (x2) with Atletico Madrid.

Back in 2016, Simeone was named the best manager in world football. The aforementioned achievements highlight that the 51-year-old is very good at his job.

However, we would be surprised if Liverpool were to ever hire Simeone. As Carragher pointed out, the Atletico Madrid manager plays quite a defensive brand of football.

Liverpool have historically played on the front foot. Simeone could very well change his style of play if he came to Anfield.

But, he has no real track record of playing an expansive brand of football. Therefore, we don't believe that the club would consider hiring him post-Klopp.
