Jamie Carragher gives worrying Man City vs Liverpool prediction

Jamie Carragher has given his prediction ahead of Man City vs Liverpool. The former Red thinks this could be a tough one.

Liverpool travel to take on Man City this weekend. It's one of the biggest games of the Premier League season, and has been for a good few years now.

This one certainly has weight behind it. City top the league by a point, one ahead of Liverpool. Both teams have been great this season while not-quite-perfect - a win in this one would be something of a statement for either side.

Carragher, though, doesn't believe Liverpool will get that win. He feels the Reds' record is too poor at the Etihad, while their defence could struggle to control City's attack.

“It will be tough,” he told the Overlap. “I think the best Liverpool will get here is a draw. Liverpool’s record there is poor. Defensively, for me, they have the best goalkeeper in the world [Alisson], Liverpool, they will definitely need him.

“Virgil van Dijk hasn’t been far away from his best this season but I do still think there are chinks in the armour. In the full-back position, Andy Robertson's out. Trent [Alexander-Arnold] in that midfield role, going back to full-back - I'm thinking of [Jeremy] Doku coming up against him.

“Defensively in midfield, they still don't have that top-class no.6. So I think it'll be difficult defensively for Liverpool, so I think the best they'll get is a draw.”

Liverpool's record there certainly is poor. In fact, if you're after some nostalgia, here's the last team to beat Man City at the Etihad in the Premier League.

And the defence could be an issue in a game like this. Liverpool generally control games very well through possession but can't do that against this City side. Those defensive issues that Carragher mentions are likely to hit s little harder as a result.

It'll be tough, then, but City aren't perfect either. Perhaps Jurgen Klopp and co. can find the ideal way to hit Pep Guardiola's team where it hurts.
