Jamie Carragher explains why he still doesn't fancy Liverpool to finish in the top four

Jamie Carragher believes Tottenham Hotspur will pip Liverpool to a place in the Premier League top four as Antonio Conte's side have a favorable run of games at the business end of the season.

Liverpool made a massive statement with their historic 7-0 win against Manchester United, but Carragher feels Liverpool will fall just short of the north London side. Speaking to Sky Sports, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, the former Reds defender spoke about Liverpool's top-four hopes and also gave his verdict on their demolition of Manchester United.

"I still favor Tottenham for top four, because I’ve actually looked right at the fixture list and they’ve got a lot more favorable fixtures than Liverpool do.

"When you see Liverpool put in a performance like that, you think how have they been that bad for that much of the season? It's an embarrassing result for United. When you win by six or seven, it's almost like United become the story. For Liverpool, it gives them a huge lift in getting them into the top four.

"Getting in the top four will be huge in terms of recruitment. Next week away at Bournemouth won’t be easy, and then they’ve got a really tough week."

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Liverpool have a tough run coming up as they prepare to face the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea over the next month or so, but Jurgen Klopp's side will really fancy their chances after their historic result against Manchester United.

The odds were similarly stacked against Liverpool in the 2020-21 campaign, but the Reds strung together an impressive run at the business end of the season to secure a third-place finish. With key players returning from injury and a handful of others showing signs of good form, Liverpool have more than a decent chance of securing a spot in the UEFA Champions League next season.
