Liverpool transfer news: What staff said about Antonee Robinson

The Athletic's James Pearce has shared what those inside Liverpool told him about links to Antonee Robinson. The full-back has been in great form this season.

Liverpool unquestionably have a problem at left-back. Andy Robertson has been out for months after shoulder surgery, while Kostas Tsimikas broke his collarbone against Arsenal last month.

That's the only two senior left-backs in the squad out long-term. Hardly ideal.

Of course, the January transfer window is here to the potential rescue. Liverpool can find someone to play there if they wish - but it sounds as though they're not going to do that.

The Athletic's James Pearce has been talking about the Reds' transfer window and says that those inside the club are just confused by links to left-backs. Antonee Robinson is one of those - but why would they move for him?

"The people I’ve spoken to have said – I think Liverpool have been linked with Robinson, the fullback at Fulham – and when you check that out, you’re told, ‘why on earth would we sign another left-back when hopefully Robertson will be back by the end of January?’," Pearce told the Walk On podcast.

“You can’t just stockpile senior left-backs when you’ve got Kostas Tsimikas to return backend of February maybe March time."

Robinson has been in fantastic form this season and a move to a 'bigger' club isn't out of the question. Liverpool wouldn't find much better on the left-back market.

Only, they're almost certainly not in that market. Liverpool have Robertson and Tsimikas coming back - neither are out for the season - and any signing would be down the pecking order post-January.

Instead, it's about coping until they're back and Jurgen Klopp does have the necessary options to do that. Joe Gomez is playing very well at left-back and Liverpool just recalled Owen Beck from Dundee after a fine spell there.

Making that work is far more Liverpool's style than a rushed move at left-back.
