The Athletic's James Pearce has provided an update on whether Liverpool plan on making any signings this month.

The Reds were very quiet in the summer. Liverpool only made the one signing.

Centre-back Ibrahima Konate joined the club from RB Leipzig for a transfer fee of €40 million.

However, Pearce is under the impression that the Reds don't plan on signing any players this month.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Pearce told The Athletic the following: "I'd love to see the squad strengthened this month but I am not aware of anything in the pipeline at this stage. I hope to be surprised."

Anfield Watch Verdict

It is frustrating to hear that Liverpool are unlikely to make any signings in the near future.

We would like to see the club add a player or two to reinvigorate the squad. The reality is, the Reds have hardly made a signing in recent times.

The current crop of players are not going to be around forever. Therefore, the club needs to have an eye to the future.

Only time will tell if Pearce's aforementioned update is correct. On another note, Liverpool's next clash is against Brentford.

The Premier League fixture will kick-off at 02:00pm on Sunday.
