"I've defended really well" - Trent Alexander-Arnold responds to critics of his defending

Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold has hit back at people who have criticised his defending this season.

It is a fair assessment to say that Trent Alexander-Arnold has been under a lot of pressure this campaign, especially considering how poorly Liverpool have started the season.

A lot of the Reds' goals came from the right-hand side but it would be very harsh to say that a lot of the goals we conceded were solely Trent's fault.

However, that has not stopped opposition fans from slating the 24-year-old and claiming that he should not be travelling to Qatar with England.

Now, in a recent interview with The Mail, the Scouse right-back has defended himself, saying he has defended 'really well' in certain instances this campaign.

"I would say there's been a lot of spotlight on it. I'd say there's been a massive magnifying glass on that aspect of my game," Trent said, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account.

"I would say, for me, like any part of my game, there's improvements to be made. There's decisions that I could have made better.

"There's instances where I could have defended a lot better, but at the same time, there's been instances where I've defended really well."

Anfield Watch Verdict

It's honestly nice to see Trent come out and defend himself. As he said, he has improved defensively this season, however, his mistakes are being overamped so much for some reason.

Is he a world-class defender? No, but neither are other English right-backs. Is he one of the best playmakers in world football? Absolutely.

I know that I and a lot of other Liverpool fans are very happy with him being a world-class playmaker but not as good defensively.

Hopefully Trent can continue to put in good defensive performances this season and shut down the haters once and for all.
