Brentford striker Ivan Toney has confessed that he's a boyhood Liverpool fan, as he was questioned over his future.

The England international is currently serving his eight-month ban for 232 breaches of the FA’s betting rules and will not be allowed to turn out for club or country until his suspension ends on 16 January, 2024.

As he remains on the sidelines and waits patiently for his return, Toney appeared on Steven Bartlett's Diary of a CEO podcast and spoke candidly on a wide range of topics, where he confessed his love for Liverpool as he was asked about his career plan.

Toney revealed he would be 'silly' not to look at offers from elite clubs, while claiming Brentford manager Thomas Frank knows of his ambitions. The former Newcastle forward added that his next club would have to be 'the right one'.

Bartlett questioned this by probing: "When you say the right club, you're not talking about Liverpool, are you? I heard you're a Liverpool fan..."

To which Toney responded: "I've been a Liverpool fan my whole life. I've liked Arsenal for the way they play and for how passionate their fans are, but I'm a Liverpool boy at heart"

Toney is widely regarded as one of the most potent strikers in the Premier League as he notched an impressive tally of 20 league goals for Brentford last season, finishing third in the Golden Boot race behind Erling Haaland (36) and Harry Kane (30). The 27-year-old had been tipped to secure a big-money move this summer, but his ban has put any potential transfer on the back burner, at least for the time being.

Judging by Toney's comments, he'd find it almost impossible to turn down a move to Anfield if the Reds were to make a move for him.

However, with Darwin Nuñez, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota all capable of leading the line and Toney currently serving a lengthy ban, it looks like his dream move isn't going to become a reality anytime soon.
