"It’s not rocket science" - Jurgen Klopp confirms Liverpool will spend this summer
Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool need to spend money this summer as they aim to overcome an 'average' 2022-23 campaign in all competitions. The Reds have been ravaged by injuries and inconsistency this season and need a bit of a squad overhaul to become a force to be reckoned with once again.
Speaking to Goal, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Klopp confirmed that Liverpool will spend money in the transfer market to improve the squad.
“We play a very average season, we have to do business in the market - we will do it!
“Spending in football combined with football knowledge will lead to improvement, that’s very likely.
“So it’s not rocket science we are talking about. So we have the year we have, but we will be ready to fight again, for whatever. We will see that - you will see that.”
Ahead of Liverpool's Premier League clash against Leeds United, the Liverpool boss once again spoke about the club's plans for the summer and revealed why the Reds opted against pursuing a move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.
"Prices change over time. We have to make decisions for the club. We cannot be angry if we don't get someone. We have to sort it. It's not fun watching other teams strengthen - but it's life. We work with it."
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Liverpool have no choice but to splash the cash this summer as the squad desperately needs a bunch of fresh faces, particularly in midfield. FSG's sell-to-buy model has worked well for us over the years, but this is arguably their biggest test as Liverpool's owners as we currently don't have too many players who we can cash in on to raise money for potential incomings.
This is also Jurgen Klopp's most important summer as Liverpool boss as he faces the difficult task of potentially parting with a few key players who have served him so well over the years.
