"It's mouth-watering" - Jason McAteer on Liverpool's new attack
Former Liverpool player Jason McAteer has waxed lyrical about the club's new-look attack.
Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have made up Jurgen Klopp's forward line in recent seasons.
However, with Firmino becoming a squad player in the past 24 months and Mane joining Bayern Munich this summer, Liverpool's attack will look quite different next season.
With that being the case, McAteer is excited.
As quoted by AW on Twitter, he told the Liverpool Echo the following: "It would be great to have Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane forever given what they could clearly do. But now we are looking at Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Salah, and it’s mouth-watering, isn’t it?
“They have done really good business. The club had to evolve and they cannot stand still. Fabio Carvalho coming in looks a little like he could play like Philippe Coutinho or could play in that false nine role like Firmino.
“In every area, the squad has fantastic cover and I thoroughly expect Liverpool and Manchester City to stride away again at the top of the Premier League.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
Diaz, Nunez and Salah will probably need a bit of time to gel. But, we are confident that Klopp will get the best out of the new attack.
The German is a world-class manager after all. It is sad to think that Firmino, Salah and Mane will not represent Liverpool together again.
The aforementioned forward line helped Liverpool win the two biggest trophies in club football - the Champions League and Premier League title.
But, life goes on. We can't wait for the 2022-23 campaign to get underway.
