"It’s about time" - Michael Owen wants to see more of Liverpool forward
Pundit Michael Owen has recently spoken about Liverpool forward Diogo Jota.
The Reds signed the Portugal international from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a transfer fee of €44.70 million back in the summer of 2020.
Since then, Jota has scored 34 goals and registered 11 assists in 91 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.
In other words, the 25-year-old has been a good signing for the club.
Jota has struggled with injuries in recent times, which has meant that he hasn't always been available for selection.
But, now that the forward is back to full fitness, Owen wants to see more of him.
“A lot of people feel he has been unlucky not to have played as much as he possibly could have,” he told Premier League Productions (09/10/22 at 4:10pm UK time).
“He hit the ground running at Liverpool because they have so many talented players up in those positions.
“He has been the fall guy a lot of the time. It’s about time that (Jurgen) Klopp gave him more opportunities now he’s back to fitness.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
As we have already pointed out, Jota is a fine talent. But, Liverpool do possess plenty of attackers (Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Darwin Nunez and Jota).
So, it's not always possible for the Portugal international to play. However, we do feel that Liverpool are a better side when Jota is playing.
The link-up play between the forwards always looks better on the eye when the 25-year-old is out on the pitch.
Jota is contracted until the conclusion of the 2026-27 campaign. His Anfield career is only just beginning as far as we are concerned.
