Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has given his thoughts on the upcoming Community Shield final.

The Reds will face off against Manchester City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday for the Shield.

Klopp has revealed that his side will have to be ready for the challenge. However, the German further added that he does not expect his team to be at their best.

“I understand people have to ask, but I couldn’t care less how they (his new signings) are at the moment because we have to get through this period immediately,” said Klopp, as quoted by The Empire of the Kop.

“It is a long season, then a long break in between (for the World Cup) and another pre-season, stuff like this, really strange. We have to make sure we are ready for that and not for tonight.

“We want to be ready for Saturday but it will be a big fight because we cannot be at our best. It’s pretty much impossible. The only good news is City are in the same situation as us.

“Salzburg have already been playing for two weeks, a league game and a cup game. In two weeks, we should look different.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We completely understand where Klopp is coming from. The reality is, most players are still finding their groove ahead of the new campaign.

But, we do want to see a strong performance against Manchester City. Pep Guardiola's team pipped Liverpool to the Premier League title by one-point last season.

It would be nice if Klopp's team could send a statement of intent come Saturday. It will be interesting to see who takes to the field for the Reds.

So far during pre-season, Klopp has fielded a number of different teams against the likes of Manchester United, Crystal Palace, RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg.
