"You were wrong" - Pep Guardiola says Liverpool clawing points back on Man City was 'fake'

Pep Guardiola has claimed that Liverpool did not claw back 14 points on his Manchester City side.

Speaking after his side's 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, as cited by Manchester Evening News, Pep hit back at people saying that City have lost a 14 point lead in the Premier League title race.

"I'm going to tell you something: 14 points, it was fake. You were wrong. We played two more games [than Liverpool]. Fake. It was not a mistake," said Pep. "After analysing the games we dropped points — Crystal Palace, especially Southampton — we were brilliant, more than brilliant.

"We were not effective, we were not clinical, but we were brilliant. We won 1-4 against Southampton in the FA Cup. We were miles away worse than the game where we drew 1-1 when we could've won 1-4. But it's football. Unpredictable.

"But the way we played, the way we created chances in both games, the same at Crystal Palace — we were amazing the way we played, but it's football."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Even though Pep technically isn't wrong, at one point in the season, Liverpool were 14 points behind Manchester City.

Yes, we had games in hand but as Pep and other managers always say, you'd rather have points on the board over games in hand.

These comments from Pep do seem massively over the top though. Maybe the title race is starting to get to him and little things like people saying City dropped 14 points are starting to affect him.

Or, it could be mind games from the Spaniard ahead of the season-defining game against Liverpool on Sunday.

Whatever this overreaction was, we're sure that Jurgen Klopp won't take any notice of it as he knows how Pep works, especially before big games.
