“It was always going to be difficult" - Jordan Henderson on Mane's departure

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has revealed that it was "difficult" saying goodbye to Sadio Mane.

The winger joined Bayern Munich for a transfer fee of £28.80 million earlier this summer.

The Reds signed Darwin Nunez from Benfica to replace Mane. Henderson admitted that the Uruguay international gives Liverpool a "new dimension".

But, the 32-year-old further added that Mane will be missed.

Henderson told The Athletic the following: “He’s (Nunez) a new option and a new dimension for us with the way we play and we’ve got to adapt to that quickly. This group has shown in the past that it is easy to settle in quickly, he can already speak with some of the lads and hopefully he can pick up English quickly.

“It was always going to be difficult losing Sadio because he’s world-class — one of the best forwards in the world. We were sad to see him leave but we wish him all the best.

“For us, you look at the forward line and it’s still very strong. We have brought new players in but we also have world-class players who performed last season."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Mane was a superb player for Liverpool. The winger scored 120 goals and registered 48 assists in 269 appearances for the club's first-team.

Mane also won the Champions League, Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League title, League Cup and FA Cup with the Reds.

There is no denying that the club has lost a very good footballer. But, life goes on. Hopefully Nunez can hit the ground running so Mane's absence is less obvious.

On another note, we wish the Senegal international all the best ahead of the 2022-23 campaign. Once a Red, always a Red.
