"It is the right decision" - Pundit praises Liverpool for keeping 21-year-old this summer
Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson has said that keeping Curtis Jones around the squad for next season will prove to be the correct decision.
Liverpool have a fair few youngsters coming through, especially in midfield. New boy Fabio Carvalho joins the highly-rated duo of Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones in the Reds' first-team squad.
There has been some talk about potentially loaning Jones out next season to get some game time, but that doesn't appear to be happening and Robinson believes keeping him around is a good idea.
“It is the right decision to keep him," he told Football Insider.
“Whether that is the best decision for the player or not only time will tell.
“It is quite clear that Liverpool are not going to sign any more midfielders in this window so I’d expect him to get more game time next season.
“It is now more of a squad game than ever. Jones will get his game time and his opportunity. He is a player who the manager likes.
“It would take a sizeable fee to turn Liverpool’s head. It doesn’t look like another midfielder is coming in so why would you sell one of your best young players who plays in that position.
“I expect Jones to start more games than he ever has done. He has an opportunity to show the manager what he can do this year.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
Late last week, reliable journalist Neil Jones came out with a report claiming that Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool will not loan out Jones despite rumours of a potential move this summer.
Honestly, I think sending him on loan would be a good idea for next season.
The reality is, Jones is behind the likes of Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Harvey Elliott.
There would be plenty of clubs interested in signing the midfielder too, as he is in and around a world-class team. Jones clearly possesses talent.
However, if Klopp wants to keep the 21-year-old around, then he clearly has a plan for him next season.
