"It can cause family tension" - Andy Robertson gives his verdict on the Merseyside derby
Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson has given his thoughts on the Merseyside derby.
The Reds will welcome Everton to Anfield on Sunday. The Premier League fixture has added meaning to it with Liverpool competing for the title and the Toffees fighting relegation.
With that being the case, Robertson was recently asked to give his thoughts on the Merseyside derby.
"When the derby is around the corner, when you bump into Everton fans, they are polite but they always say they hope they get the three points! You always know when big games are on the horizon," the Scotland international told the BBC, as quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter.
"Since coming to Liverpool, I've realised that quite a few families are split between Liverpool and Everton! It can cause family tension but it's all good banter. Any time you play a derby you just want the red side to be happy!"
Anfield Watch Verdict
Robertson is made for big matches. He plays with plenty of aggression, which ultimately brings out the best in him.
We do have a feeling that the upcoming Merseyside derby could be quite heated simply because of what is on the line. Therefore, we are looking forward to the match.
On another note, Robertson is having a very good season. The left-back has scored one goal and registered 15 assists in 39 appearances.
Robertson has also been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.14 across the 2021-22 campaign.
There is no denying that the Scotland international is such an important cog in Jurgen Klopp's side. Hopefully he can stay fit and continue performing for Liverpool in the years to come.
We wish Robertson and the team all the best for the remainder of the season.
