"Is available" - Stephen Warnock on who Liverpool should sign

Former Red Stephen Warnock has given his opinion on who Liverpool should sign before the summer transfer window closes.

The 40-year-old would like to see the club acquire a midfielder. For who is available, Warnock has said that Liverpool should make a move for Leicester City's Youri Tielemans.

"A lot has been made of Liverpool needing midfield reinforcement, I do agree. I think the owners, at some point, will have to put their hands in their pockets and give Jurgen Klopp an extra player. Whoever that may be," he told the BBC, as quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter.

"One of the guys that stood out for me was Yves Bissouma, who went to Tottenham and for the fee they paid for him, I think he would have been perfect for Liverpool.

"But the other one at the moment, who is available and seems like he's after a move, is Tielemans at Leicester. You think, could he be an option if you pay about £25 million for someone like him to come into that midfield.

"To offer the competitiveness that is needed in those central positions. It's always a worry when you have your worst start to a Premier League season in 10 years, it's a massive concern."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Tielemans is a decent player. The midfielder has scored 24 goals and registered 24 assists in 162 appearances for Leicester City's first-team.

Tielemans averaged a WhoScored player rating of 6.90 across the 2021-22 Premier League campaign.

The aforementioned figures highlight that Tielemans would add some strength and depth to Liverpool's midfield.

Also, the Belgium international is only 25 years of age. Tielemans' career is far from over.

There is no denying that Liverpool could do with a midfielder before the summer transfer window closes.

The Reds do possess an ageing midfield. The likes of Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara and James Milner are all 30 years or older.

But, only time will tell if Liverpool are to sign anymore players this summer.
