Liverpool set for quiet January transfer window

Liverpool are set for a very quiet January transfer window, if reports are to be believed, which may irritate some fans of the Reds.

The market in the summer was pretty quiet with Ibrahima Konate the only arrival of note, with the Reds opting instead to give current stars new contracts.

Indeed, it has often been the policy that January would not be used as a way of signing new players unless a top target became available or desperate measures were needed, as we saw last year.

That said, then, it sounds as though the Reds are set to be quiet this month despite AFCON beginning and taking away Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita, with the Liverpool Echo reporting that Jurgen Klopp will get on with what he has at Kirkby.

Anfield Watch Verdict

It's probably no real surprise to hear this is the stance that Liverpool have for the January window in truth - we only saw late action last year in January with new centre-halves arriving after late injuries to Fabinho and Joel Matip towards the end of the month, prompting the arrivals of Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies.

The Reds have shown in several windows in the recent past they are not interested in signing short-term options or players that they have not done their research on.

That is clearly the feeling for this winter window, too, and we'll just hope Klopp and co. have a suitable plan to get us through the next few weeks with AFCON on.
