"Injured and he is recovering" - Guinea manager on Naby Keita's situation

Guinea manager Kaba Diawara has confirmed that Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is recovering from an injury.

The Reds revealed their 24-man squad for the Champions League group stage earlier this month, but the 27-year-old was not named due to an injury.

Despite that being the case, Guinea included Keita in their latest squad, which made a number of Liverpool supporters suspicious.

However, Diawara has confirmed that the midfielder is actually injured.

As quoted by feguifoot.com, he said the following: "Naby Keita is injured and he is recovering from his injury. His situation is improving and he is even ahead of schedule.

"We took a group of 24 players precisely to give him a chance to be able to count on him because he is a very important player for us, on and off the pitch, he is our captain.

"We are monitoring his situation very closely. We still have a little over two weeks before our first game. There are chances of getting him back by then."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Liverpool signed Keita from RB Leipzig for a transfer fee of £54 million back in the summer of 2018.

However, the midfielder has failed to perform for the Reds. Keita scored 11 goals and registered seven assists in 117 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.

The Guinea international has suffered a number of injuries since joining the Reds. Therefore, we would not be surprised if Keita left the club in the near future.

The 27-year-old is out of contract at the conclusion of this season and his time at Anfield has been a complete failure.

Keita needs a fresh start.
