Incredible stat shows why Mohamed Salah is in a class of his own

Mohamed Salah was on the scoresheet yet again for Liverpool at the weekend.

Three things seem certain in life: death, taxes and Salah getting at least 30 goals in all competitions per season.

Any angle, any shot, against any opposition, the winger finds a way to get the ball into the back of the net.

There's a reason fans dub him the Egyptian King. Not only is he Liverpool's all-time Premier League top goal scorer, but he is 14th across the entire league since it became the Premier League, and he needs just ten more in 2023/24 to officially break into the top ten list.

Exceptionally few can compare to the amount of goals Salah puts away season after season, but an element to his game that is perhaps underrated is his playmaking, his vision, and his ability to find the right pass at the right time.

Last season, as well as scoring 19 in the league, Salah turned creator and assisted 12 (a figure only bettered by Kevin De Bruyne, who is largely considered the best attacking midfielder in the world).

This evolution of Salah becoming an all-round attacker, rather than 'just' a prolific goalscorer is a trend that is continuing this season, with the winger netting two and assisting two in the opening four games of the season.

After his most recent goal, in which he headed home Liverpool's third in their 3-0 win against Aston Villa last weekend, it was revealed that Salah had scored or assisted in his last ten consecutive Premier League appearances. Talk about consistent.

However, as Opta revealed, not only is Salah still the bench mark for wingers in world football, despite now being 31 years old, but  Liverpool's number 11 was actually the first to register a goal contribution in ten consecutive fixtures, since he himself achieved the feat two years prior.

Between August and December 2021, Salah scored or assisted for 15 games on the bounce. Since then, not one player in the entire Premier League had even managed ten games in a row, until Salah himself last weekend.

If there has ever been a stat to show exactly why Jurgen Klopp and supporters are so desperate to keep hold of their star man, in light of Saudi Arabia's £200m pursuit, then it is this one.

Salah breaks so many records that sometimes he has to compete with himself. No one else compares.
