Incredible stat showcases Jurgen Klopp's substitution masterclass this season

Liverpool's source of goals this season has gone far beyond those selected in the starting XI - and yesterday's win over Brentford showcased that once again.

Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo both came off the bench to score in the Reds' 4-1 win over the Bees, following a trend that has become one the stories of Liverpool's season.

Jurgen Klopp's substitutes have on many occasions been the difference between a good and bad result this term, utilising the depth in quality of his ranks to punish the opposition when they begin to tire.

The extent of just how regular Liverpool's substitutions directly impact a game is pretty incredible. According to Andrew Beasley, Liverpool have played 38 games this season and a sub has scored and/or assisted in 22 of them.

On top of this, there have been just six games in which they've scored in the second half and a sub hasn't contributed.

It's indicative of Klopp's consistency to get his substitutions spot on for Liverpool, especially during times of need.

However, the players also deserve the plaudits, possessing the right mentality not to let a relegation to the subs bench dishearten them into a poor performance.

Darwin Nunez has seven goal contributions off the bench, bagging four goals and three assists - the most of any Liverpool sub. The impact of a fresh-legged Nunez is there to be seen.

And of course, we can't forget about Liverpool's super sub from this season, Harvey Elliott. He's bagged three goal contributions this season as a substitute, including the vital last-gasp winner at Crystal Palace.

That said, his impact on the game goes far beyond base stats this campaign, injecting life and energy into a side that may be lacking.

Liverpool's utilisation of substitutions reflects how you need more than just a great starting XI to achieve success at the highest level - you need a great squad.
