"I’m happy" - Neco Williams delighted to score first goal for Fulham

Liverpool loanee Neco Williams scored his first goal for Fulham against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium last night.

The right-back joined the London-based side on a six-month loan deal back in January. Williams has been performing quite well for Fulham.

The Wales international has been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.54 in the Championship (seven appearances) this season.

However, now Williams has finally found the back of the net for Fulham. In fact, the defender scored not one, but two goals during the club's 5-1 win over Swansea last night.

Williams said that he was happy with his performance.

“If you don’t shoot, then you won’t score! Today, obviously, I took my chances and scored. Luckily I got two goals and not just one," the 20-year-old told FFCTV, as quoted by HammyEnd.

"I came so close in the last game but this game I got my goals, I’m happy and I’m just relieved.

"The first one [goal] happened quick. It was just quick thinking. I knew there was obviously players in front of me and I just tried to squeeze it in. Luckily, it’s gone through a couple of legs and a few deflections but it is a goal and all of them count.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We are delighted that Williams is having a successful loan spell with Fulham. The right-back will improve by playing regular senior football.

The reality is, Williams is behind Trent Alexander-Arnold in the pecking order at Anfield. Therefore, the youngster is better off playing elsewhere for the time being.

There is only so much you can learn from sitting on the bench. With that being the case, we would like to see Williams spend the entire 2022-23 campaign out on loan.

On another note, we wish Williams all the best for the remainder of the current season.
