Pundit Graeme Souness believes that Liverpool's worst fears have been realised.

Back in the summer, reigning champions Manchester City signed striker Erling Haaland for a transfer fee of €60 million from Borussia Dortmund.

The Norway international arrived in England with a huge reputation. Well, it would be fair to say that Haaland has lived up to the hype.

The 22-year-old has scored 17 goals and registered three assists in 11 appearances for Manchester City this season.

Souness has said the following about Haaland's run of form.

“If you're a Liverpool supporter, I think your worst fears have been realised,” he told talkSPORT (3 October, 11.40am). “Haaland is everything they say he is.

“There was a risk, as there always is, about a player coming to our football who hadn’t played in it before. But I think our worst fears are being realised. He is the real deal. So I think everybody is playing for second place unless City go through the most horrendous injury run.

“Everyone’s playing for second place.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Souness is spot on. Manchester City were already a top side before Haaland's arrival. So, to see a player of the striker's ability sign for the Citizens was not easy from a Liverpool point of view.

It is even more difficult seeing Haaland perform. Liverpool won't be challenging for the Premier League title anytime soon, which is not an easy thing to admit.

The reality is, Manchester City are miles ahead of everyone else.
