"If he has any ambition" - Pundit urges Liverpool player to leave Anfield

Former Arsenal player Kevin Campbell has said that Joe Gomez should be leaving Liverpool if he wants to be selected for the World Cup.

With Gomez being our fourth-choice centre-back, there have been some rumours that he could be on his way out of Anfield this summer.

One former player who thinks he should leave Anfield is Campbell. He believes that Gomez will leave if a good offer comes in.

“I think he will look to leave if a good offer comes in," Campbell told Football Insider. “The fact of the matter is, he is not playing enough football.

“It is one thing being first-reserve, but it is another when you are third or fourth-choice. He is probably the fourth-choice centre-half.

“Liverpool have also signed another right-back (Calvin Ramsay) as well. The writing is on the wall as far as I’m concerned.

“If he has any ambition of getting to the World Cup (to represent England), he needs to leave. He needs to be playing.

“The key is to go to a club where he will play regularly. Hopefully a deal can be done and he can play football. There is nothing better than playing.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We will not be selling Gomez this summer unless a decent offer is presented to the club.

In fact, it's been widely reported that Jurgen Klopp and Julian Ward are going to offer Gomez a new deal during pre-season.

The 25-year-old's contract doesn't expire until 2024, but he is a vital part of our team and we don't want a repeat of the 2021-22 campaign where we had no centre-backs (injuries).

Yes, at the moment his lack of game time is a bit worrying, but Joel Matip isn't getting any younger (30 years of age).

Gomez's Liverpool chapter is not over yet and unless an offer of £50 million plus came in, then I expect him to remain at Anfield.
