"I’d like to sell him tomorrow" - John Aldridge on Reds midfielder
Former Liverpool player John Aldridge would like to see the club sell Naby Keita.
The Reds signed the midfielder from RB Leipzig for a transfer fee of £54 million back in the summer of 2018.
However, since then, Keita has only made 117 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.
The Guinea international has suffered a number of injuries since joining the Reds.
With that being the case, Aldridge would like to see Liverpool part ways with Keita.
“In an ideal world, for me personally, I’d like to sell him tomorrow and get some money in," he told the Liverpool Echo, as quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter.
“You can’t depend on him, because whenever he gets a run in the team he only lasts four or five games. It’s always been the same and it’s not right.
“So that’s what every Liverpool fan would ideally like. Get some money back and go and get someone who’s not injured and who’s as good or better, and at the minute there’s plenty out there that will, in my opinion.”
Keita's current contract expires at the conclusion of the season. He possesses a current market value of £22.50 million.
Anfield Watch Verdict
We can see where Aldridge is coming from. The team simply can't rely on Keita, which is obviously an issue.
It's a shame because the midfielder does possess talent. Keita scored 17 goals and registered 15 assists in 71 appearances for RB Leipzig's first-team.
If the Guinea international could remain fit and play a decent run of games, then he would certainly add something to Liverpool's midfield.
Only time will tell where Keita's long-term future lies.
