Ibrahima Konate admits he has imagined playing for PSG in future

Liverpool's Ibrahima Konate has admitted that he has thought about playing for Paris Saint-Germain at some stage in his career – but it is not one of his current 'objectives'.

The 24-year-old centre back is now in his third season at Anfield, having made the move from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021.

Prior to that, Konate, who grew up in the French capital, spent several years as a youth prospect at Paris FC before moving to Sochaux where he broke through as a senior player.

Now established as one of the top young defenders for club and country, Konate is Jurgen Klopp's preferred centre back partner for Virgil van Dijk and a favourite of France boss Didier Deschamps.

Understandably, given his place of birth and rise to prominence in recent years, Konate has regularly been touted for a move to Ligue 1 giants PSG.

The Reds' number five laughed off a question about a possible transfer during the recent international break, while he had to field another from French reporters following Liverpool's draw with Luton on Sunday.

After the clash at Kenilworth Road, Konate was asked by Canal Plus whether he had imagined himself playing for PSG one day.

He responded: "If I said no, I'd be lying, but if you're asking, is it one of my objectives? Not at all.

"PSG has made sure to recruit players who understand each other well and who play with each other for the France national team. Even for the people and the Parisian fans, it makes them happy. It's what they've been waiting for for years, having Parisian players or at least French players in the team."

Konate has played in eight Premier League games so far in 2023/24 and is under contract at Anfield until 2026.
