Iago Aspas opens up on who he enjoyed playing with at Liverpool
Former Liverpool forward Iago Aspas has recently said that it was an honour to play alongside Steven Gerrard at Anfield.
The club signed the Spaniard from Celta Vigo for a transfer fee of €10.80 million back in the summer of 2013.
However, the move did not work out for Aspas. Between 2013-15, the 34-year-old only scored one goal and registered one assist in 15 appearances for Liverpool.
But, Aspas has implied that he will never forget his time as a Red because he got to play alongside Gerrard.
“I can always tell my kids I have played with Steven Gerrard and Liverpool," the forward told the BBC, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account. "It was a true luxury to have shared the dressing room with him. “He was always one second ahead of the others. Now it is easy for him to transmit all these things to his players when he coaches.”Anfield Watch Verdict
We can see where Aspas is coming from. It would be pretty special to share a dressing room with a player like Gerrard.
The midfielder found the back of the net 186 times and secured 150 assists in 710 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.
Gerrard also won the 2005 Champions League title with the Reds. The aforementioned figures and achievements highlight that he achieved a fair bit in the game.
Therefore, we can see why Aspas does have some good memories of his time at Liverpool.
On another note, it was a shame that the Spaniard could not get going at Anfield. Aspas, who is now back at Celta Vigo, has scored 179 goals in 409 matches for the club.
He is a more than capable player. But, it just didn't happen for Aspas at Liverpool. We wish the forward all the best for the remainder of the season.
