"I would start" - Paul Merson would like to see Darwin Nunez start against Fulham

Pundit Paul Merson would start new-boy Darwin Nunez against Fulham at Craven Cottage this Saturday.

The striker did not start for the Reds against Manchester City in the Community Shield final last Saturday.

However, Nunez did have an impact off the bench during the second half. The 23-year-old scored Liverpool's third goal of the afternoon. The Reds secured a 3-1 victory over the Citizens.

Merson would go a step further this weekend and start Nunez against Fulham in the Premier League.

He told Sportskeeda: “I would start Darwin Nunez in this game. I only say that because this is not a game against one of the big six, and you know that Liverpool are going to dominate.

"Nunez needs to play in games where you know he’s going to score, and this is a great game for him to make his Premier League debut.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We would love to see Nunez start against Fulham. Liverpool did pay Benfica €100 million for the striker.

So, we would not be surprised if Reds boss Jurgen Klopp started Nunez against Fulham.

We can't see the Cottagers getting anywhere near the Uruguay international. Nunez is quick, strong and tall.

The forward possesses all the attributes to give a newly promoted side a tough time. But, only time will tell if Nunez is to start against Fulham.

On another note, we can't wait for tomorrow. The first game of the season is always exciting.

Liverpool looked really good against Manchester City last weekend, so we are optimistic ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

We wish the Reds all the very best ahead of tomorrow.
