"I would have preferred" - Ian Wright critical of Jurgen Klopp's comments

Former Arsenal forward Ian Wright has criticised Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp for his comments regarding Fulham last Saturday.

The Reds secured a 2-2 draw against the newly promoted Premier League side at Craven Cottage last weekend.

Post-game, Klopp wasn't overly complimentary towards Fulham. Wright had the following to say about the German's comments.

“I would have preferred if Jurgen Klopp said ‘you know what, that’s what you are going to expect, it’s a Championship team coming up’,” he said on his own podcast.

“For Jurgen Klopp to say ‘the attitude of his players wasn’t right’. I thought that was really, really disrespectful.

“They (Fulham) didn’t do anything other than work Liverpool in every single aspect of that game. Every single one.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

To be fair, we can see where Klopp is coming from. The reality is, Liverpool were nowhere near their best against Fulham.

The Reds are one of the best teams in the world. So, they should have defeated the Cottagers. Klopp has every right to criticise the mentality of his players.

But, you do have to give Fulham a lot of credit. The Cottagers have only just been promoted to the Premier League. However, they held their own against a top team.

It will be interesting to see if Klopp makes a few personnel changes for Liverpool's upcoming Premier League clash against Crystal Palace at Anfield next Monday night.

It has been reported that midfielder Thiago Alcantara will be out of action for several weeks after he sustained a hamstring injury against Fulham last week.

So, Klopp will make at least one change for the match against Crystal Palace.
