"I will never forget my time there" - Sadio Mane on playing for Liverpool

Former Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has reflected on his time at Anfield.

The Reds signed the Senegal international from Roma for a transfer fee of €32 million back in the summer of 2016.

Mane went on to score 120 goals and register 49 assists in 269 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.

The 30-year-old also won six major trophies with the Reds - including the Champions League.

Mane said that he will "never forget" his time at Anfield.

“Honestly, I will never forget my time there. I learned a lot – as a man and as a football player,” he told UEFA.com, as quoted by 90 Min.

“The supporters were amazing, the people from the city were amazing. It is a club that will stay in my heart forever.

“It is also a legendary club – they have won everything. And also, it is the club that had all the best Champions League nights.”

Mane further added: “I remember the second goal that Divock Origi scored very well (in the final against Tottenham Hotspur).

“I was over the moon at that moment. I couldn’t believe it. I just thought back to my childhood, when I was watching the Champions League.

“I also took a lot of pleasure in watching the excitement surrounding the competition. I found myself playing a final and, more importantly, winning it. It was amazing – 2019 was an outstanding year. The celebrations, the club…

“You just had to be there to understand. I think over half a million people were out in the streets waiting for us to parade our trophy. It was just beautiful.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

As we have pointed out, Mane was an exceptional player for Liverpool. So, we were gutted to see the winger depart the club for Bayern Munich for a transfer fee of €32 million back in July.

But, players can't represent a football team forever. Liverpool Football Club will survive. We wish Mane all the best heading into the future.

He was a fine servant for the Reds. On another note, the Reds will face Rangers (Champions League group stage) at Anfield on Tuesday night.
