Former Liverpool defender Fabio Aurelio has praised Reds left-back Kostas Tsimikas for his performance against Ajax at Anfield last week.

Andy Robertson was unavailable for the Champions League group stage fixture due to a knee injury.

With that being the case, Tsimikas started against Ajax. The Greece international impressed Aurelio with his display against the Dutch side.

As quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter, he told the club's official website the following: “I was impressed with Kostas Tsimikas again during Liverpool's win against AFC Ajax in the Champions League earlier this week.

“Obviously it was a shame Andy Robertson was unavailable through injury but we're really seeing the benefits of having such good competition at left-back.

“Getting more game time and having the opportunity to show what kind of player he is, you can see the increase in Tsimikas' confidence massively, and that'll be helping his performance levels.

“It wasn't an easy start to Tsimikas' career at Anfield in 2020-21, only making seven appearances. For all the importance of training, the rhythm of games at this level are completely different to sessions. You can be well prepared but without the games you can suffer.

“It seems Jurgen Klopp is prepared to use both of his left-backs more than he did in previous campaigns. That can help push the levels of Robertson and Tsimikas even higher as both will want to be starting – helping the team. I see it as a win-win situation.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Tsimikas registered an assist and a WhoScored player rating of 7.91 against Ajax. In other words, the defender played well against the Dutch team.

Tsimikas reminded everyone that he is a very good second-choice left-back.

Liverpool ended up securing a much-needed 2-1 victory over Ajax. The Reds did not play on the weekend.

Jurgen Klopp's team were set to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. But, the Premier League fixture was postponed due to the Queen's Funeral.

Liverpool's next clash is against Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield on the 1st of October.
