Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson has revealed that he was happy to keep Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka quiet on Wednesday night.

The Reds defeated the Gunners 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium. Liverpool are now only one point behind Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Robertson implied that he was wary of the threat that Saka posed midweek, which is why he was pleased to stop the England international from having any impact on the result.

The Scotland international also praised Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold for the job he did on Gabriel Martinelli.

“I think it was more a defensive performance from me and Trent,” Robertson told Sky Sports (01:47).

“Martinelli and Saka, they are really hard work. Really tricky wingers. Always wanting the ball in behind. Always looking to take you on one-v-one.

“I thought Trent was outstanding against Martinelli. And, look, it’s never easy against Saka, so I was happy to keep him quiet during this game.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Saka and Martinelli are good players. The forwards have scored 14 goals and registered nine assists between them across the 2021-22 club campaign.

Therefore, it was good to see Robertson and Alexander-Arnold keep the pair of them quiet.

On another note, the Scotland international is having a very good season. Robertson has scored one goal and registered 13 assists in 34 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions.

The left-back has also been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.16 across the 2021-22 club campaign.

The aforementioned figures highlight that Robertson is a key reason why Liverpool currently sit in second-place on the Premier League table.

We wish the 28-year-old and the team all the very best for the remainder of the season. We are right behind all of the lads as they strive for Premier League glory.
