"I want to win it" - Mohamed Salah reveals his goal
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has revealed that he wants to win the Ballon d'Or.
The winger has been a world-class player for Liverpool. Salah has found the back of the net 156 times and registered 63 assists in 254 appearances for the club's first-team.
Despite that being the case, Salah has never won the Ballon d'Or. However, the Egyptian international has made it clear that he would like to claim the prize before he retires.
"I want to win it to join George Weah, the only African (to win the award)," he told France Football, as quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter.
"It's true that I was shocked by my ranking in 2021. For this year, the defeat against Real Madrid is a disadvantage, even if I played a good game in the (Champions League) final.
"But it doesn't cancel out everything I've achieved for months. Let's wait for the vote. And if I'm not Ballon d'Or in 2022, I'll do everything I can to be the next one."
Anfield Watch Verdict
We really do hope that Salah goes on to claim the Ballon d'Or at some stage during his career.
The winger is such a good player. But, there is no denying that the Ballon d'Or is a difficult award to win.
On another note, Salah's contract expires in the summer of 2023. With that being the case, we would like to see the 29-year-old and the club agree on new terms.
It has been reported that talks have taken place between Salah's representatives and Liverpool. However, the forward is yet to sign, which is obviously quite concerning.
You never want to see a top player leave your club. Therefore, we really do hope that Salah and the Reds can reach an agreement.
