Former Everton attacking midfielder James Rodriguez has revealed that he wants Liverpool to win the Champions League final this season.

The Reds will face Real Madrid on the 28th of May in Paris. Despite the fact that Rodriguez played for one of Liverpool's biggest rivals, he wants to see the Reds claim the European Cup at the end of this month.

The 30-year-old would like Liverpool winger Luis Diaz (fellow Colombian) to win the biggest trophy in club football.

As quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter, Rodriguez told the Liverpool Echo the following: "I want Liverpool to be champion. I have many friends in Real Madrid and it is a difficult team for this type of match, but I want Lucho (Diaz) to win."

Anfield Watch Verdict

We can't imagine Rodriguez's comments going down too well with the Everton faithful. The Colombian only made 26 appearances for the Toffees (2020-21).

But, the reality is, Rodriguez still represented the club. Therefore, he probably shouldn't be supporting Liverpool in any final.

However, you have to admire that he wants to see his friend win the Champions League.

Liverpool still have a few games to play before the final. Jurgen Klopp's side will lock horns with Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium this Saturday.

To conclude the Premier League season, the Reds will face Southampton at St Mary's next Tuesday night and Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on the final day.

In other words, Liverpool can't be getting too far ahead of themselves. In saying that, we can't wait for the Champions League final.

But, there is no denying that we will be nervous when the game comes around. European Cup finals are never enjoyable when your team is playing.
