Centre-back Ibrahima Konate has opened up on his thought process when it came to joining Liverpool.

The Reds signed the Frenchman from RB Leipzig for a transfer fee of €40 million ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.

Konate has revealed that he knew going to Liverpool would be a test, but he was confident that he had the ability to represent the club.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Konate told Sport Witness the following: “I told myself that if I come to Liverpool, yes it’s another level, but I trust my abilities, so I’m going to do everything to earn my spot, whether it be short-term or long-term."

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Konate has had a decent start to his Liverpool career. The centre-back averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.31 in his opening four and only matches for the club.

The aforementioned figure highlights that he does have a bright future.

The reality is, the Frenchman has signed for a team that has won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and Premier League title in the past two years.

Therefore, we don't expect to see Konate get much of an opportunity for the remainder of the season.

However, the 22-year-old is only young, so his chance will eventually come. Going by Konate's aforementioned comments, he understands that he may need to be patient.
