Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher has tipped Jurgen Klopp's side to win the Champions League ahead of Manchester City and Real Madrid.

Speaking on CBS after Liverpool beat Villarreal at Anfield in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Carragher said that he thinks the Reds will lift the famous European trophy this season.

"I think Liverpool will win the Champions League," said Carragher. "The league I’m not so sure, Manchester City have a slight advantage in that if they win all their games they’ve won the league.

"If Liverpool can get through this weekend still being in the same position they’re in with Manchester City I still think they’ve got a great chance with the league but that’s up to Manchester City.

"I think Madrid will go through. When you miss that many chances in the first leg you have got a massive problem. It’s a big standout game."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Even though Klopp and the Liverpool players would never say it, the Reds have one foot in the final of this year's Champions League.

What we saw from Villarreal yesterday suggests that they're not going to be able to overcome the two-goal deficit that Liverpool inflicted yesterday.

However, this is the Champions League and as we know ourselves, anything can happen, even the impossible.

On the other side of the Champions League bracket are Manchester City and Real Madrid. After watching their very entertaining game the other day, Liverpool will be very confident they can beat either side.

The defensive performance on display was pretty terrible, to say the least. Saying that though, it was a very enjoyable game for the neutrals watching.

However, the final will be a one-off game and anything can happen.

Thankfully, the Reds have been in this position many times before and Klopp will know exactly how to prepare his side.
