“I think Liverpool will hate drawing Rangers" - Chris Sutton on Champions League draw
Pundit Chris Sutton believes that Liverpool will "hate" coming up against Rangers in the Champions League group stages this season.
The Reds will face the Scottish Premiership side on the 4th of October (Anfield) and 12th of October (Ibrox).
However, Sutton is under the impression that Jurgen Klopp's team won't enjoy playing against Rangers.
“I think Liverpool will hate drawing Rangers. I do. It’s everything to lose for them,” he told BT Sport’s Scottish Football Extra, as quoted by Football Scotland.
“Ally (McCoist) played against Leeds in that draw years ago and they knocked them out.
“The English clubs do not like drawing the Scottish clubs because of the sheer humiliation factor. And Rangers will absolutely not fear anyone, especially at Ibrox.
“Liverpool haven’t started the season well so there’s no reason why Rangers cannot take the scalp of Liverpool."
Anfield Watch Verdict
We don't agree with Sutton's opinion. Liverpool are one of the best teams in the world. There is a reason why the Reds have played in three Champions League finals since 2019.
So, why would Klopp's team fear coming up against Rangers? We can't think of one possible reason.
Don't get me wrong, Liverpool will have to play well to defeat Rangers, especially at the Ibrox.
But, the Reds can beat anyone on their day. With that being the case, we can't wait to see Liverpool come up against Rangers in October.
There is nothing better than watching big Champions League fixtures.
