"I think Liverpool" - Jamie Carragher on which player he wants the Reds to sign
Former Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher has revealed that he would like to see the club sign a midfielder in the near future.
The Reds have acquired Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay in the past few months.
However, Liverpool have not added to their midfield this summer. Carragher believes that the Reds would be wise to sign a central player.
As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, he told Sky Sports' Overlap the following: “I think Liverpool could still do with someone in midfield, not in terms of numbers-wise but in terms of quality-wise and I think - notoriously, how Liverpool have done their transfers - they wait for who they want.
“When they didn't get (Virgil) van Dijk that time, they waited and they gave it to January, even though most fans were saying ‘you’ve got to go buy another centre-back’. They don't panic.
“Even when all their centre-backs were injured in the same season, in January, they brought a couple of centre-backs in but on-loan.
“They didn’t buy anyone because they didn't get who they wanted, which was (Ibrahima) Konate, and they waited. And I just think Liverpool - they’re not daft. The first choice midfield three right now is quite old, with all three getting into their 30s.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
We completely agree with Carragher's take. The reality is, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp does possess an ageing midfield.
Both Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara are in their 30s, so the German will have to invest in his midfield in the near future.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham in recent times.
The 19-year-old would be a superb signing for the club. Bellingham is young and considered one of the finest talents in the game.
But, only time will tell if Liverpool and the England international are to cross paths.
