"I think I’ve always been" - Jordan Henderson on how he views his role

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has opened up on how he views himself as a player.

The Reds signed the midfielder from Sunderland for a transfer fee of £16.20 million back in the summer of 2011.

Since then, Henderson has gone on to score 33 goals and register 58 assists in 448 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.

The 32-year-old has also led the club to six major trophies. Henderson was recently asked about his role at Anfield.

He said that his game is based on instinct. Henderson further added that he gains motivation from his critics.

As quoted by Anfield Watch, he told the club's official website the following: “When I’m on the pitch I’m different. I think I’ve always been quite an instinctive player, quite a high-energy, intense player, quite emotional. I’ve sort of had to improve over the last few years, definitely, since Jurgen (Klopp) came.

“I get a lot of help from the players around me, of course, a lot of help from the coaching staff. I do become a lot more intense (on the pitch), a lot more aggressive – only to try to help the team. I need to shout at people for them to be able to hear me really.

“My motivation has always been to prove people wrong and I don’t think that will ever go, I think that will always be the case. I’ve always had to prove people wrong all through my life and I don’t think I’d want it to change now.

“I’ve learned to deal with it, I’ve learned to use it in a positive way.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

As we have already pointed out, Henderson has been a fine player and captain for the club.

It will be a sad day when the midfielder does depart Anfield. Henderson has been a key cog in Liverpool's starting XI for over a decade now.

So, it will feel strange when he does eventually move on. But, a player can't represent a team forever.
